The Doris Duke Charitable Foundation announced in July that they would be launching a new initiative within conservation organizations that will support diversity, equity, and inclusion. This article notes that developments such as this one are important for all types of organizations, even those owned and operated by minority group members. For U.S. conservation organizations that have, in the past, shown a commitment to this priority, additional monetary support will be provided.
This was, in part, sparked by the COVID-19 pandemic, and the fact that many organizations are struggling financially. That said, the intensified focus on racial inequality within the United States over the past few months has also been an important cause for this initiative.
The Doris Duke Charitable Foundation stated that 11 or 12 different organizations would receive grants totaling $700,000. The distribution of these grants will begin in October, 2020.
