Course Description

This is a pre-professional seminar for majors and non-majors considering careers in the Arts and related disciplines.  Specifically, students will be offered opportunities to hone important career skills vital to the arts (and where relevant arts administration) through masterclasses and workshops. We will also examine how artists and arts organizations are responding to challenges posed by larger societal issues such as diversity, immigration and climate change.

Students in the seminar will work either individually or in teams on a single semester-long research project such as a concert, lecture, or a film or art installation.  Each student/team will shape all elements of their project- from its thematic conception, writing well-researched program notes, publicity, rehearsals, to its final virtual presentation. We will utilize a wide range of learning strategies to understand how community engagement and outreach are playing an increasingly important role in careers related to the arts.
